10 Ton Water Chillers

Cold Shot Chillers designs, assembles, and tests 10 Ton water chillers in Houston, Texas USA. These are industrial grade water chillers manufactured to meet the nationally recognized UL Listed requirements. 10 Ton chillers can be configured for air-cooled or water-cooled applications. Stationary, portable, and reverse flow designs are available to accommodate virtually any heat removal requirement.

10 Ton Air-cooled Chiller (Portable)

In chiller language the term “portable” refers to a chiller containing a refrigeration circuit along with a tank, pump, and evaporator built within the same frame. The term does not mean mobile. In fact, once a chiller is installed it is very rarely ever moved.

The portable 10 Ton model ACWC-120-Q air-cooled water chiller includes a multi-stage hermetic scroll compressor using R410A refrigerant. The refrigerant is a non-depleting ozone gas and is considered environmentally friendly. The evaporator, centrifugal pump, tank, and flow safety switch are non-ferrous metals such as stainless steel, copper, and bronze. With normal preventive maintenance this chiller will lasts for many years. The chiller unit weighs approximately 1500 lbs. in total with dimensions of 73.5” L x 39.5” W x 67” H.  

Standard Features

Controls: The unit comes standard with an electronic programmed temperature controller with constant (set point & process) temperature readout.

Refrigeration Components: Efficient scroll compressors, balanced port expansion valves, sight glass/moisture indicators, pump down valves, filter drier, fan cycling head pressure controls.

Process Fluid Components: Bronze “Y” strainer with 20 mesh stainless steel screen. Pumps are stainless steel centrifugal. Tanks are insulated with shoe box lid, fill port, and level sight glass. Portable systems will include a bypass flow valve.

Safety Controls: High and low refrigerant pressure, high and low fluid temperature, low water flow, thermal overloads for compressor and fan motors, safety fuses or overloads for pump.

Construction: Welded steel powder coated frame and full metal cabinet, copper piping connections.

Warranty: One year for parts / five year for the compressor. 

10 Ton Air-cooled Chiller (Stationary)

The term “stationary” refers to any chiller that does not include a pump or a tank. A stationary chiller includes the refrigeration components (compressor, condenser, TXV, etc.) plumbed to an evaporator. A separate pump and tank are used to provide fluid flow through the evaporator. This is required to exchange heat from the fluid entering the evaporator. The heat is transferred through the refrigerant to the condenser where the hot air is blown into the atmosphere. 

A 10 Ton model ACWC-120-QST will have a single power drop connection. In many cases the external tank and pump will have its own power source and controls. To prevent the pump from running while the chiller is not in cooling mode, we provide dry contacts on the chiller. Some field wiring is required to run two wires from the pump switch to the dry contacts on the chiller. This ensures the pump is not operating by itself which can create heat simply by traveling through the pipes. Left alone the fluid can get extremely hot. It is also possible to have the pump control components built into the chiller.

A hermetically sealed scroll compressor is used to provide two stage capabilities. A hot gas bypass can also be used to provide additional heat load capacity control. R410A refrigerant is used for effective and reliable cooling, plus is environmentally friendly.

The unit weighs approximately 750 lbs. in total with dimensions of 73.5” L x 39.5” W x 44.8” H.

10 Ton Air-cooled Chiller (Reverse Flow)

A “reverse flow” portable chiller refers to a chiller that does not include a tank. The tank is external to the chiller and contains water or some other heat transfer fluid which is recirculated through the tank and the chiller. In some applications the fluid is potable drinking water used for dough mixing applications.

Cold Shot Chillers 10 Ton model ACWC-120-QRF air-cooled water chiller includes a hermetic scroll compressor with two stage capabilities. Two-stage compressors operate at two different speeds, allowing them to match the heat load of the application more closely. There are fewer moving parts which makes for a reliable and quiet operation.

10 Ton Water-cooled Units (Portable)

Cold Shot Chillers model WCWC-120-E is a water-cooled fluid chiller. Instead of using condenser coils and fan motor to remove heat it uses a water-cooled condenser. Heat is removed using condensing water temperatures up to 85°F. The condensing water can be from a cooling tower, geothermal, or some other water source.   

A water-cooled water chiller is typically installed indoors in a mechanical room or closer to the process it is removing heat from. The chiller system is relatively quiet when compared to air-cooled alternatives. A two-stage hermetic sealed scroll compressor has very few moving parts which make it smooth and quiet. A temperature controller with easy to read LED screen allows for temperature settings and includes self-diagnostics to communicate its operating condition. Alerts and alarms are displayed in a numeric code to rapidly diagnose any interruption which may occur.

10 Ton Water-cooled Chillers (Reverse Flow)

Cold Shot Chillers 10 Ton model WCWC-120-ERF is a “reverse flow” chiller.  This means the chiller does not include an internal glycol tank. This type of chiller includes a stainless-steel centrifugal pump and stainless-steel copper brazed plate evaporator. A chiller with “reverse flow” design requires the chiller to be relatively close to the tank containing the heat transfer fluid to prevent the pump from cavitating. The fluid is pumped from the external tank to the chiller and back to the tank. The heat in the fluid is pumped into the chiller’s evaporator, through the refrigerant circuit, and to the condensing water.

A reverse flow chiller is used to remove heat from a fluid to maintain a desired tank temperature. Many processes have specific incoming fluid temperatures required so their process operates efficiently. In some applications the fluid is consumed by the process. In these situations, the heat load is coming from the make-up fluid temperature being higher than the chilled tank temperature.

The reverse flow 10 Ton chiller measures 46.5” L x 34.5” W x 52.5” H and weighs approximately 1100 lbs.
