The term “central air-cooled chiller” refers to any central chiller system that can cool several processes throughout a plant at the same time. A central chiller plant can be stationary or portable. The system requires a reservoir or pump(s) to distribute the water or coolant to the processes.
The standard Cold Shot Chillers® product offering includes central chillers ranging from 2 to 250 tons in cooling capacity. Key features include:
To provide the extra level of dependability for all air cooled and water cooled central chiller systems we offer, the Cold Shot Guardian™ predictive maintenance monitoring app notifies operations and maintenance of operational inconsistencies prior to failure.

Leading the central chiller unit manufacturing industry, Cold Shot Chillers® provides flexible cooling solutions for all industries using high-quality components. We have been designing and manufacturing central stationary water chillers in Houston, Texas since the 1970s. What else do you need to know?

An air-cooled chiller refers to a chiller system that uses the ambient air surrounding the condensing unit to cool and condense the refrigerant back into a liquid.
The term “portable” does not refer to its mobility but rather to the basic configuration of the system. Normally, once installed, the portable chiller unit is never moved. This term describes any chiller system that contains the refrigeration circuit, the reservoir, the pump(s), and all necessary components.
A central chiller is any chiller used to cool several processes. The chiller can be water cooled or air cooled and has a stationary or portable configuration.
At Cold Shot Chillers®, we proudly offer a complete and detailed quote within 30 minutes. Our staff is readily available to discuss your water cooled and air cooled central chiller applications.
Most central chiller systems are installed outdoors or on rooftops to allow proper airflow and heat rejection while keeping noise and heat out of production areas.
Standard warranty coverage includes one year on parts and five years on the compressor. (This warranty applies to both air-cooled and water-cooled central chiller models.)
Real time operating data is available through network connectivity using WiFi, LAN, or LTE. Monitoring includes temperatures, pressures, pump and compressor status, motor run time, cycling history and system fault codes. Email and text alerts notify operators of maintenance milestones, alarms and abnormal conditions, while all data is stored for longterm history and troubleshooting. After final assembly, panels are installed and secured. The unit is cleaned, inspected, and packaged to protect components during transport. Each chiller is clearly labeled to ensure proper handling and safe delivery.
Each industrial chiller is factory tested under full load conditions. All operating modes, controls, and safety devices are verified. Systems are checked for refrigerant leaks, mechanical issues, and proper performance before being approved for shipment. This applies to both air cooled and water cooled chillers.
With proper installation and routine maintenance, high efficiency industrial chillers commonly operate 15-20 years or longer. Service life depends on operating conditions, load consistency and whether the chiller is operating within its designed cooling capacity.
