Cold Shot Chillers® offers a variety of water cooled chillers that suit a wide range of industries. Water cooled chiller systems absorb heat from process water and transfer it to a separate water source such as a cooling tower, river, pond, etc. Industrial water-cooled liquid chillers are generally used for large-capacity applications, where the heat generated by air-cooled chillers creates a problem.
Water-to-water chillers are also considered when a cooling tower is already in place, or where the customer requires optimum efficiency of power consumption. Water-cooled chillers require condenser water treatment to eliminate mineral buildup. Mineral deposits create poor heat transfer situations, that reduce the efficiency of the unit.
The term “stationary water chiller” refers to any chiller that does not include a pump or a tank. The main component is a stand-alone chiller unit that must be connected by piping to a pump and a separate reservoir to function.
See our stationary water-cooled chiller PDF for more specifications.
This system will typically have separate controls for the chiller and the pump or pumps, with an electrical connection for each component. The controls should ideally be wired together to prevent the chiller from cooling until the circulating pump is operating. The standard Cold Shot Chillers® product offering for stationary chillers included sizes ranging from 2 tons to more than 250 tons.
Cold Shot Chillers® predictive maintenance Guardian™ app provides email/text notifications for predictive maintenance milestones, technical alarms, fault codes, and alerts to nearly eliminate downtime for all our water-cooled chillers.
Cold Shot Chillers® Water-Cooled Stationary Liquid Chillers provide chilled water for almost any process. They are designed for either indoor or outdoor (roof or ground level) installations. Each unit includes hermetic scroll compressors, an air-cooled condenser, a full refrigerant charge of R-410A, and a weather-resistant microprocessor control center, all mounted on a rugged, formed-steel base.

All industrial water chillers use suction-gas-cooled, hermetic scroll compressors. The compressors incorporate a scroll design that is compliant in both the axial and radial directions. All rotating parts are statically and dynamically balanced. A large internal volume and oil reservoir provides greater liquid tolerance. Compressor crankcase heaters are also included for extra protection against liquid migration.
Brazed plate heat exchangers are UL (Underwriters Laboratories) listed. The cooler is equipped with a heater controlled by a separate thermostat for outdoor low-ambient applications. The heater provides freeze protection for the cooler down to -20°F (-29°C) ambient. The cooler is covered with 3/4″ (19mm) flexible, closed-cell foam insulation (K=0.25) and 20 mesh strainers (0.5 and 1.5 mm).
Stainless Steel/Copper Brazed Plate (Carbon Steel Shell and Copper tube available on custom-built machines).
With proper maintenance, 15-25 years is common in industrial service.
It transfers heat from process water to refrigerant, then from refrigerant to condenser water, which sends the heat to a cooling tower.

The main difference is how heat is rejected. Air cooled chillers use ambient air and condenser fans to remove heat. Water cooled chillers use condenser water connected to a cooling tower.

Water cooled chillers are available in sizes from 2 tons up to 250+ tons, covering mid-size process loads through large central plant industrial applications.
Standard warranty coverage includes one year on parts and five years on the compressor.
Each water cooled chiller is factory tested under full load conditions. All operating modes, controls, and safety devices are verified. The refrigeration circuit and water cooled condenser are checked for leaks, flow performance, pressure stability, and proper heat transfer before shipment.
Cold Shot Chillers offers water cooled chiller systems designed for efficiency and long-term performance. Built to handle various applications, these systems use environmentally responsible refrigerants to minimize indirect emissions while delivering consistent process cooling. With a variable speed drive, they adjust to off-design conditions for better energy savings and lower maintenance costs. Our water and air-cooled chillers provide a low total direct impact on energy use while maintaining reliable performance.
