Let us clear up a misconception, the term “portable” refers to the basic configuration of the system, not to its portability. In most cases, a portable chiller, once installed, is very rarely ever moved. A portable chiller includes components such as the refrigeration circuit, an internal tank, and a pump, all within a single footprint.
Cold Shot Chillers model ACWC-150-E uses a hermetic sealed scroll compressor with an environmentally friendly R410A refrigerant. Non-ferrous fluid contact surfaces are used throughout the fluid contact surfaces. This includes a stainless-steel pump, stainless steel copper or nickel brazed evaporators, copper pipes, copper fittings, and bronze “Y” strainer. The frame and panels have powder coated surfaces which is resistant to weather, chemicals, and corrosion.

The term “stationary” has no meaning to the chiller’s mobility. The term “stationary” refers to any chiller that does not include a pump or a tank. The chiller includes the refrigeration components and a stainless-steel copper brazed evaporator. These types of chillers require the use of an external tank and pump. Some field wiring and plumbing is required.
A Cold Shot Chillers 12.5 Ton stationary air-cooled water chiller uses a two-stage energy efficient scroll compressor. The chiller controls include a self-diagnostic PLC, temperature controller with easy to read LED display, pressure safety switches, and fluid flow switch. Provisions can be made to the controls to turn the chiller on and off remotely from the pump/tank assembly. This prevents the chiller from operating without the pump being turned on.

A “reverse flow” chiller includes a pump but does not include an internal chiller tank. This type of chiller is mounted near an external tank that contains water or heat transfer fluid. The fluid is gravity fed into the chiller pump to provide suitable head pressure to pump the fluid properly out of the tank. The chiller includes a strainer to prevent any suspended particles or debris from entering the evaporator. The fluid will pass through the evaporator, removing a portion of the heat prior to flowing back to the external tank. Separate pumps can be connected to the external tank for the process. Fluid returning from the process is brought back to the tank and the process is repeated.
Our model ACWC-150-E-RF chiller features a programmable logic controller which monitors safeties and controls the sequence of operation of the chiller. Additionally, the LED on the temperature controller will display a numeric code should a condition arise that impedes the chiller operation.

Cold Shot Chillers designs, assembles, and tests “portable” water-cooled fluid chillers for all types of applications. Our model WCWC-150-E includes a two-stage hermetic scroll compressor to handle a wide range of cooling capacities. The tandem compressors use R-410A refrigerant which is environmentally friendly plus is widely used in commercial and residential uses.
Heat from the process is removed when the chilled fluid passes through a heat exchanger or jacketed tank. The warm fluid is returned to the chiller passing through an evaporator. The heat from the fluid is absorbed by the refrigerant. The refrigerant enters the evaporator as a boiling liquid and exits the evaporator as a gas. The vapor gas is condensed by water provided from a cooling tower or geothermal method. The incoming condensing water temperature can be as high as 85°F without degradation of chiller efficiency.
Our model WCWC-150-E includes an 80-gallon stainless steel tank, stainless-steel centrifugal pump, and stainless-steel copper brazed evaporator to provide ample cooling capacity for virtually any application.

Cold Shot Chillers model WCWC-150-ERF “reverse flow” chillers include non-ferrous fluid contact surfaces throughout the chiller such as stainless-steel evaporator, condenser, centrifugal pump, and copper piping. These types of chillers remove heat by geothermal or cooling tower water supply. The chiller operates efficiently with 85°F incoming condensing water temperature.
The 12.5 Ton dual stage scroll compressors provide a wide range of cooling capacities. Lead-lag programming is used to alternate the workload from one compressor to the next to avoid overworking one compressor over the other. The refrigerant is R410A which is readily available and is environmentally friendly.
A reverse flow water chiller is located relatively close to the external tank containing the heat transfer fluid. This fluid can be potable water for consumption, or some concentration of chiller rated glycol. Field wiring and plumbing is required to connect the chiller and tank.
